Vintage Sunn 200s Amp Head For Guitar/bass 70 Watt All Tube Kt88 Unmodded Tone!
This is an auction of a Sunn guitar amplifier model 200s. This amp was built in Salt Lake City, Utah around the year of 1969. Sunn equipment is beautifully constructed and makes the service of this amplifier very pleasant.
Services rendered to the amplifier.
-Metal brackets installed to hold both transformers. The original mounts were thin and had broken due to age/oxidation/stress. Sunn transformers are very heavy and deserve the mechanical support.
-Power transformer wiring corrected. Solder connections likely failed when the original mounts gave.
-New 3-prong AC power cable installed to meet modern grounding safety
-Death cap and ground polarity switch defeated as per modern electrical safety
-New GZ34 rectifier tube installed
-New KT88 power tubes installed and biased
-Working voltages and component values tested within spec
What's left is an outstanding guitar amplifier. Tone is excellent for guitar or bass. Expect powerful clean tones and moderate grit when pushed from volume and guitar signal. The controls are simple volume, bass, and treble. There are also switchable boosts for bass a treble that offer noticeable yet not overbearing increases. The tube layout is 12ax7, 6an8, kt88 (2), gz34. This amplifier's "ultra-linear" operation (triode/pentode mix) renders 70 watts rms output into 4 or 8 ohm.
Cosmetic pitting in the chassis and checking in the tolex is present as can be expected from road worn vintage equipment. There is no back cabinet cover. The red LED power switch does not light.
Continental US shipping only due to the weight of this amp. I'm happy to answer any questions. Best of luck bidding. On Sep-17-13 at 00:08:45 PDT, seller added the following information:
