Vintage Sears Silvertone 1484 Twin Twelve Tube Guitar Amp Amplifier 1965
Vintage Sears SILVERTONE 1484 Twin Twelve Tube Guitar Amp Amplifier 1965
Good to good+ cosmetic condition in my opinion. I may be down playing it a bit, but I will say that this looks much better than most 1484's I have seen on Ebay. I purchased this from the original owner recently at an estate sale. The speaker cabinet has some abrasions and spots in areas. There is some small tolex damage on some corners and edges (and in some cases chewed a little into the wood). There are pictures below which show some of that. Keep in mind this is a 47 year old unit (1965) and was used in a band. So you are bound to see some signs of use, etc. Overall though, pretty darn good as I see it. The front grill fabric is very nice. From what I can see of the speakers (cones) I don't see any damage. I am not going to remove the speakers to inspect. Amp head is cosmetically very nice as I see it. You can see a couple small dings on the front silver face. I gave it a little polishing as this was in storage for many years and had gathered dust. I sprayed tuner cleaner on the controls and lightly air blew out any dust/debris. The tubes are all original Silvertone tubes. As a matter of fact, I believe everything is 100% original. The speaker wire going from the amp to the speakers has been spliced. No big deal. You can always replace the wire if that bothers you.
Operationally, I hooked up a guitar to this unit and it sounded very nice and clean. No inordinate buzzing heard. I did hear a very slight scratchiness when tuning the treble on both channels, but that stopped when treble was set. Probably just needs a little more cleaning. Both channels do work. Channel One is the "no effects" channel. It only has controls for volume, bass and treble. This is by design, not a flaw. Channel 2 is the "effects" channel where you can utilize the reverb and tremolo. All controls for both channels do work. The reverb appears to work but seems weak and not very pronounced in my opinion. I did not test the foot switch jack as I do not have the foot switch. All the switches on the front do work as does the on pilot light. .....A note on electronics
I am not an audiophile or a technical wizard nor do I claim to be. Most, if not all electronic items I offer are used, vintage or both. I test everything I am able to at the best of my ability and with what testing equipment I have on hand. Therefore, if you are buying an electronic item and something is not mentioned or clear to you or maybe you want to verify a concern, then please ask questions. It is important to understand used and vintage equipment may not operate as it did when new. This is just inherent with age, how well the previous owner took care of it and, quite simply, the nature of the beast whether it is a stereo receiver or a motorcycle.
